Day 1
Make your way to Gangotri (3,415M)
The trek begins from Gangotri, a mountain town on the banks of the Bhagirathi River and considered the origin of the holy River Ganga. Located in the Greater Himalayan Range, it lies about 245 km from Dehradun.
If you have signed up with NK Adventure for transport, we assemble early in the morning and begin our drive to Gangotri. The journey takes around 8–9 hours through scenic mountain terrain.
We aim to reach early to allow proper rest and avoid delays caused by unpredictable mountain conditions.
Day 2
Rest and acclimatization at Gangotri (3,415M)
This day is dedicated to acclimatization. Proper rest and hydration are essential to help your body adjust to the altitude.
You can explore the local market, nearby temples, and surrounding areas. Light walking is recommended to aid acclimatization.
A group briefing session is conducted to discuss expedition details, safety guidelines, and expectations.
An evening acclimatization walk helps further adaptation.
Day 3
Gangotri (3,415M) to Nala Camp (3,760M)
Distance: 7 km
Our first trekking day involves an altitude gain of around 350M. The trail passes through dense forests and occasional meadows.
We move towards the Rudugaira valley, gradually ascending through oak and birch forests before reaching Nala Camp.
The campsite offers stunning views of surrounding peaks like Gangotri III and Jogin II.
An acclimatization walk is conducted in the evening.
Day 4
Nala Camp (3,760M) to Gangotri BC (4,450 m)
Today involves a steep ascent with an altitude gain of nearly 700M.
The trail begins through meadows and streams before transitioning into steeper grassy slopes.
We cross a glacier section and reach the base camp located at the confluence of glaciers.
The journey takes approximately 6–8 hours.
Day 5
Rest and Acclimatization at Base Camp (4,450M)
This day is reserved for acclimatization after significant altitude gain.
A short hike offers views of Auden’s Col. The day ends early to ensure proper rest.
Day 6 – Day 12
Expedition
High-altitude conditions are unpredictable, requiring flexible planning.
The climb involves multiple camps including Advanced Base Camp (5,050M), Camp 1 (5,500M), and Summit Camp (5,900M).
Rotation climbs are conducted to aid acclimatization before the summit push.
The route includes steep icy sections and crevasses, requiring use of fixed ropes and careful navigation.
After the summit attempt, the team descends back to base camp and eventually towards Gangotri.
Day 13
Depart from Gangotri
The expedition concludes with celebration and reflection on the journey.
It is recommended to keep buffer days before onward travel due to unpredictable mountain conditions.
Day 14 and Day 15
