Who Can Participate

  • Age Requirement:
    • April to November: 10 years.
    • December to March: 12 years.
  • First-timers are welcome, though prior trekking experience is preferred. Good fitness is a must.
  • Fitness Criteria:
    • The Trekker should have sufficient stamina to cover 5 km of distance by jogging in 33 minutes without stress or 10 km of distance in 75 minutes without stress
    • If the trekker prefers cycling he/she should be able to cycle 15 km of distance in 45 minutes .
  • If the trekker wants to carry a backpack then he/she should be able to carry a 10-12 kg backpack. If opt Off-load option then the trekker should be able to carry 3-5 kg backpack.
  • If a trekker’s BMI is more or less than the normal range (18-28), please consult our Trek Coordinator before booking.

Itinerary

Day-1: New Jalpaiguri (NJP) to Yuksom

  • Altitude Yuksom: 1,800 m / 5,700 ft
  • Drive Distance: 150 km | Approx. 8 hrs

Day-2: Drive from Yuksom to Melliaching and Trek to Bhanjang via Pangretar

  • Altitude:
    • Melliaching: 1,800 m / 5,800 ft
    • Bhanjang: 2,500 m / 8,200 ft
  • Trek Distance: 7-8 km | 6-7 hrs
  • Drive Distance: 20 km | 2 hrs

Day-3: Trek from Bhanjang to Bajre Dara

  • Altitude Bajre Dara: 3,400 m /11,000 ft
  • Trek Distance: 4 km | 6-7 hrs approx.

Day-4: Trek from Bajre Dara to Lamathang

  • Altitude Lamathang: 2,100 m / 6,900 ft
  • Trek Distance: 6 km | 5-6 hrs

Day-5: Lamathang to Khecheopalri Lake and Drive Back to NJP

  • Altitude Khecheopalri: 2,000 m / 6,500 ft

Day 1: NJP to Yuksom (Drive)

  • Altitude: 1,800 m / 5,700 ft
  • Drive Distance: 150 km | 8 hrs approx.
  • Stay: Guesthouse in Yuksom

Drive from New Jalpaiguri (NJP) to Yuksom, the historic gateway to the Kanchenjunga region. The scenic journey follows the Teesta River and passes through beautiful Sikkimese valleys.

Yuksom, the first capital of Sikkim, offers a peaceful mountain atmosphere. Evening trek briefing and overnight stay at guesthouse.

Day 2: Drive to Melliaching & Trek to Bhanjang

  • Altitude: 2,500 m / 8,200 ft
  • Drive: 20 km | 2 hrs
  • Trek Distance: 7–8 km | 6–7 hrs
  • Stay: Tents

Short drive to Melliaching followed by trek through dense oak, bamboo, and rhododendron forests.

The trail gradually ascends via Pangretar and Gayjure before reaching the serene forest campsite at Bhanjang.

Day 3: Bhanjang to Bajre Dara

  • Altitude: 3,400 m / 11,000 ft
  • Trek Distance: 4 km | 6–7 hrs
  • Stay: Tents

A challenging ascent through rhododendron and bamboo forests leads to the summit of Bajre Dara.

On clear days, enjoy spectacular views of Mt. Kanchenjunga, Pandim, Rathong, Talung, Kabru Dome, and surrounding peaks. Camp overnight at the summit meadow.

Day 4: Bajre Dara to Lamathang

  • Altitude: 2,100 m / 6,900 ft
  • Trek Distance: 6 km | 5–6 hrs

Witness a mesmerizing sunrise over Kanchenjunga before beginning descent toward Lamathang village.

The trail passes through forests and scenic viewpoints overlooking Khecheopalri Lake. Overnight camping near Lamathang.

Day 5: Lamathang to Khecheopalri Lake & Drive to NJP

  • Altitude: 2,000 m / 6,500 ft
  • Trek Distance: 4 km | 1–2 hrs
  • Drive Distance: 170 km | 7–8 hrs

Visit the sacred Khecheopalri Lake, also known as the “wish-fulfilling lake,” and explore the nearby monastery.

After completing the trek, drive back to NJP, concluding your Bajre Dara adventure with unforgettable Himalayan memories.

The best time to undertake the trek is from November to March when the skies are clear and the mountain views are spectacular.

Mobile network is generally available up to Yuksom. Beyond the base village, network connectivity is very limited or unavailable.

The nearest airport is Bagdogra Airport. The nearest railway station is New Jalpaiguri (NJP), which serves as the main access point to Yuksom.

The total trekking distance is approximately 32 km.

The Bajre Dara Trek is typically completed in 6 days, including travel from NJP to Yuksom, trekking days, and return journey.

A moderate level of fitness is required. Participants should be in good health and capable of carrying a 10–15 kg backpack if necessary.

On clear days, you can witness magnificent views of Mt. Kanchenjunga and Mt. Pandim along with other Eastern Himalayan peaks. The trek also offers beautiful sunrise and sunset views.

Payment & Cancellation Policy:

When you have firmly decided to undertake the Tour with New Knight Adventure, you will need to book the trip with us. We must allocate enough time to prepare, obtain necessary documents and permits, and book hotels and Transport for the trip.
25% advance during the time of booking for confirmation
50% Amount one month prior of arrival in India
25% Amount to be one week prior of arrival in India

 

Cancellation Policy:

• If the cancellation is made 30 days before the tour starts, 25% of the full payment will be deducted and 75% will be refunded.
• If the cancellation is made 20 days before the tour start, 35% of the full payment will be deducted and 65% will be refunded
• If the cancellation is made 10 days before the tour start, 80% will be deducted and 20% will be refunded.
• No refund is made if the trip is cancelled after the departure for Expedition.
• No refund is made during the running tour.
• The cost of travel permit or any other documentation charges will not be refundable
