Day 1
Dehradun (636M) to Gangotri (3,415M)
Distance: 240 km Drive
The trek begins from Gangotri, a sacred mountain town on the banks of the Bhagirathi River and considered the origin of the holy River Ganga. Located in the Greater Himalayan Range, it lies about 240 km from Dehradun.
If you have opted for transport with NK Adventure, we assemble early in the morning and begin our drive to Gangotri. The journey takes around 8–10 hours through scenic mountain terrain.
We aim to reach before dark to allow proper rest and avoid delays caused by unpredictable mountain conditions.
Day 2
Acclimatization in Gangotri
This day is dedicated to acclimatization. Proper rest and hydration are essential to help your body adjust to the altitude.
You can explore the local market, nearby temples, and surrounding areas. Light walking is recommended to aid acclimatization.
We also conduct a group briefing session covering expedition details, safety guidelines, and environmental practices.
An evening acclimatization walk helps further adaptation.
Day 3
Gangotri (3,415M) to Bhojwasa (3,775M)
Distance: 14 km Trek
Today marks the start of the trek. We move along the Bhagirathi River towards Gomukh.
The trail passes through Chirbasa, known for its pine forests, before reaching Bhojwasa where we camp for the night.
The campsite offers stunning views of the Bhagirathi peaks.
Day 4
Bhojwasa (3,775M) to Tapovan (4,460M)
Distance: 13 km Trek
We begin early and cross the glacier snout at Gomukh before ascending towards Tapovan.
Tapovan is a beautiful meadow surrounded by towering peaks and freshwater streams.
Day 5
Tapovan (4,460M) to Nandanvan (4,800M)
Distance: 8 km Trek
We move towards the Meru Glacier and continue across glacial moraines to reach Nandanvan.
The campsite offers magnificent views of Shivling Peak and surrounding mountains.
Day 6
Nandanvan (4,800M) to Vasuki Tal [Base Camp] (4,876M)
Distance: 6 km Trek
We follow a steady ascent along the Chaturangi Glacier to reach Vasuki Tal, which serves as our base camp.
Day 7
Acclimatization at Base Camp
This day is used for acclimatization, gear setup, and technical training on snow and ice.
Day 8 – Day 19
Expedition
High-altitude conditions require flexible planning, so schedules may vary.
The climb involves multiple camps above base camp, including Camp 1 (5,130M), Camp 2 (5,790M), and Camp 3 (6,200M).
Rotation climbs, acclimatization, and summit attempts are carried out based on weather conditions.
The summit push begins at night and offers breathtaking views of the Garhwal Himalayas and the Tibetan Plateau.
After the summit, the team descends back to Gangotri over several days.
Day 20
Depart from Gangotri
The expedition concludes with celebration and reflection on the journey. It is recommended to keep buffer days before onward travel due to unpredictable mountain conditions.
